The port of Banus developed by Jose Banus now known as Puerto Banus

Just to start, a little bit of history about Puerto Banus and its introduction as a destination for the rich and famous from all over the globe.

Back in the very late 60's early 70's a powerful business man with many interests across the Costa del Sol had a dream of developing a "play ground" for the rich and famous. The Costa del Sol was just developing into a popular "package deal" destination and a man by the name of Jose Banus wanted somewhere more exclusive. Somewhere that the most powerful and famous people in the World could arrive in their luxury yachts. For these reasons a small fishing village was transformed into the chic port we see today of Puerto Banus.

Puerto Banus has everything to offer its millions of visitors. Designer shops and expensive restaurants to lively bars and exclusive night clubs. As you walk along the frontline of Puerto Banus most people slow down to a snails pace as they admire the luxury yachts lined up alongside each other, trying to catch a glimpse of the people on board just in case it is Antonio Banderas or Julio Inglesias or maybe another celebrity just popped over for a night out or two at Puerto Banus.

About Puerto Banus
Opposite the many yachts on the shore side the frontline is made up of restaurant after restaurant, shops, cafes, bars and the odd nightclub. The majority of designers now have a presence in Puerto Banus like Louis Vitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Dior. Some of the restaurants are the best to be found anywhere on the Costa del Sol and the cafes provide the perfect vantage point to sit and "people watch", which is one of the most poplar pass times in the port.

Puerto Banus is busy at all times of the day but at night it gets very busy. IN the earlier part of the evening you will see families strolling along the front eating ice creams and looking at the luxury cars parked opposite the yachts. After about midnight the port changes, you see the familes heading off to their homes or hotels and in the opposite direction you see the "party set" heading into the port for the start of their night out.

Elsewhere in Puerto Banus
Nowadays Puerto Banus is not just confined to the port area itself. A few minutes inland from the port there is a large square called Plaza Antonio Banderas, which is lined with more bars and shops. Just up from this is a huge department store called El Corte Ingles. Even as you head further out and cross the main highway, the otherside of the road is an area called Nueva Andalucia which is still classified as part of Puerto Banus.
