Air Drama on the Costa del Sol
An Airbus 320 bound for Manchester from Malaga Airport was forced to return to Malaga shortly after take off on 12 October 2005 after one of its engines exploded. All crew and passengers were evacuated from the Monrach flight upon its return to Malaga without injury. There were 199 passengers on board and left Malaga at 13.00 hours. As soon as the pilot had established what had happened he immediately radioed tha control tower and full emergency procedures were put into place. Before landing the aircraft dumped all excess fuel out at sea before attempting its safe landing.
Train Delays
Further to our August news article about the RENFE high speed rail network link at Malaga, it is now expected that the construction will not be completed until 2009. Although the government has a commitment to complete the tunnel and the station by 2007, the remainder of the service will not be completed until 2009.
Going Dutch
A quaint village in Granada has seen its population increase by some 25% during the summer. The reason for this increase is down to a Dutch couple that purchased a home there 5 years ago and invite many of their friends to visit. They do this each anniversary of their purchase and this summer saw some 50 of their friends and family arrive at the village of Sorvilan in Granada.
UK Soap washes Nerja Away
Popular soap Emmerdale Farm is filming in Nerja and an entire episode will be about Nerja on the Costa del Sol. The residents have looked a little bemused at the goings on although they are excited that the towns deputy mayor from Maro, Anotnio Gallardo will actually play the towns mayor in the episode.
Money Laundering Marbella
Latest reports about the much publicised Marbella money laundering case now speculate that the crime has conections to 16 different criminal bands. This news is released as the case judge Miguel Angel Torres lifted some of the restrictions on the reporting of the case.
Air Berlin
An announcement by Air Berlin suggests that they will be doubling the number of flights to the Costa del Sol's Malaga airport. This is due to take effect from 1 November and one of the routes will now link their network with a direct flight from Malaga to Amsterdam. The reason for the increase in flights and routes is due to a 14% increase in the number of passengers using the service.
